Goods Receipt
A goods receipt records products accepted into stock from a supplier or another source. It should preserve actual quantity, location and relevant product identity.
A worked example
A practical example to make the concept clear.
| Step | Illustrative record and result |
|---|---|
| Starting record | Supplier paperwork lists 10 kits on PO-DEMO-06. |
| Change or calculation | The receiver counts 8 usable kits and 2 damaged kits. Accept 8 into Stock and record the damage separately. |
| Meaning and exception | The receipt preserves actual quantity, location, receiver and reference. Ten ordered does not mean ten accepted. |
Why it matters
Receiving establishes what was accepted, where and by whom. Keep shortages and damage visible so purchasing can resolve a supplier discrepancy and finance can review the bill.
